ECP - Extended Common Pool
Enhanced Definition
The Extended Common Pool (ECP) is a specific subpool within the Extended Common Service Area (ECSA) of a z/OS system. It provides a shared storage area above the 16MB line, accessible by all address spaces within the same z/OS image, primarily used for inter-address space communication and data sharing. The Extended Common Pool (ECP) is a critical area of 64-bit virtual storage in z/OS that resides above the 2GB bar. It is designed to hold globally shared data structures, control blocks, and system-wide information accessible by all address spaces within a single z/OS system. ECP serves as the 64-bit extension of the Common Storage Area (CSA) and Extended Common Storage Area (ECSA).
