Allocation Control Center

The architecture of Allocation Control Center (ACC) on z/OS comprises several key components. The Command-Line Interface (CLI) is the primary interface for users to interact with the system. The CLI parses user commands and interacts with other components.

Configuration Files store storage policies and dataset attributes. These files are used to define how datasets are allocated and managed. The Reporting Engine generates reports on storage usage, dataset characteristics, and system performance.

The Data Set Router is responsible for routing small tape datasets to DASD. The Security Module handles authentication and authorization, integrating with z/OS security features. Communication between components occurs through z/OS system calls and internal APIs.

The CLI sends commands to the Configuration File parser and Reporting Engine. The Data Set Router interacts with the storage management system to move datasets. ACC uses z/OS datasets for storing configuration data, logs, and reports.

The product helps in automating and streamlining data set allocation and management tasks, and what are the advantages of automation. Network requirements are minimal, as the system operates within the z/OS environment. Ports used are standard z/OS system ports.

Compared to IBM's DFSMS, ACC offers additional features for dataset placement and management. The CLI provides a direct interface for managing datasets, while the Reporting Engine provides insights into storage usage.
