Product Overview

The architecture of CICS/Timeout is centered around three primary components: the Timeout Monitor, the Session Interceptor, and the Configuration Manager. The Timeout Monitor is responsible for tracking the inactivity of CICS sessions. It periodically checks the status of active sessions and determines if they have exceeded the configured timeout interval.

The Session Interceptor is a key component that monitors user activity within CICS. It intercepts CICS API calls to detect user interactions, such as key presses or data transfers. The Configuration Manager provides the interface for setting and managing the timeout parameters.

It reads settings from configuration files and allows administrators to adjust the timeout intervals, specify users or transactions to exclude, and configure logging options. Communication between components occurs within the CICS environment. The Session Interceptor communicates activity to the Timeout Monitor.

The Configuration Manager updates the settings used by the Timeout Monitor and Session Interceptor. The software does not use external databases or storage mechanisms, relying on CICS facilities for session management and logging. The software operates within the CICS environment and does not require specific network ports or external network connections.

The software integrates with CICS logging mechanisms to record session activity, including login and logout events. The configuration files are typically stored in a protected dataset accessible to the CICS region.
