Euro/Key

The Euro/Key architecture is designed for high availability and scalability within a z/OS environment. The core components include the Conversion Engine, Rate Manager, and CICS Interface. The Conversion Engine is the central processing unit, responsible for performing currency conversions.

It utilizes real-time exchange rates fetched by the Rate Manager. The Rate Manager retrieves exchange rates from configurable sources, including external APIs and databases. The CICS Interface intercepts data from CICS screens, identifies currency values, and triggers the conversion process.

Communication between components is primarily internal, using optimized data structures and inter-process communication (IPC) mechanisms. The system uses a file-based storage mechanism for configuration and exchange rates, with options for integration with external databases such as DB2 for enhanced scalability and data persistence. The REST API provides a standardized interface for external applications to access conversion functionality.

The API uses HTTP methods (GET, POST) and JSON for data exchange. The system is designed to be non-intrusive, requiring minimal changes to existing CICS applications. The CLI provides commands for administrative tasks, including starting and stopping the conversion service, updating exchange rates, and managing user accounts.

The web-based GUI provides real-time monitoring and configuration capabilities. Security is ensured through user ID and password authentication, role-based access control (RBAC), and TLS/SSL encryption for data transmission. Comprehensive audit logging tracks all system activities.
