The ISPW architecture comprises several key components: the ISPW Server, the Db2 database, and the ISPF, web, and Eclipse interfaces. The ISPW Server acts as the central control point, managing all operations and interactions. It communicates with the Db2 database to store and retrieve metadata and source code.
The ISPF interface provides a traditional 3270-based user experience, while the web and Eclipse interfaces offer modern, browser-based access. Communication between the ISPW Server and the Db2 database occurs via standard Db2 protocols. The ISPW Server exposes REST APIs for integration with other systems, using HTTP/HTTPS for communication.
The system uses an access control model based on user roles and permissions (RBAC), with authentication handled through z/OS security systems like RACF. Encryption is used to protect sensitive data, both in transit and at rest within the Db2 database. Audit logs track all user actions and system events, providing a comprehensive record of changes.
Compared to other solutions, ISPW provides a tightly integrated solution specifically for the z/OS platform, offering enhanced performance and security.
