Product Overview

The architecture of OSXREFS is centered around four key utilities: OSXDSN, OSXLINKS, OSXSCAN, and OSXPROC. These components are designed to run within a z/OS environment and interact with system resources through JCL. OSXDSN analyzes JCL PROCs to identify dataset usage.

It reads JCL statements from datasets and parses them to extract dataset names. OSXLINKS identifies program dependencies by examining link libraries and JCL PROCs. It accesses link libraries to list programs and then analyzes JCL to find PROCs that execute those programs.

OSXSCAN scans PDS members for specific string occurrences. It reads PDS members and searches for user-defined strings. OSXPROC lists PROCs and the programs they use.

It analyzes JCL PROCs to identify the programs invoked within them. The components communicate through JCL control cards and datasets. Input parameters are provided via SYSIN DD statements, and output reports are generated to SYSPRINT or datasets.

There are no specific API endpoints. The utilities interact with the z/OS operating system through standard system calls and access methods. The storage mechanism relies on z/OS datasets for input and output.

There are no specific network requirements or ports. Security is managed through the z/OS security system, such as RACF, which controls access to datasets and system resources. The utilities do not have built-in authentication or encryption.

The execution of OSXREFS jobs is subject to z/OS auditing mechanisms.
