The architecture of Vanguard ez/Signon is centered around the ez/Signon Server, which acts as the central point of authentication and authorization. The RACF Interface facilitates communication with the RACF security server, enabling the use of RACF profiles for access control. Client agents, deployed on Windows and UNIX platforms, communicate with the ez/Signon Server to facilitate single sign-on.
Communication between the server and client agents uses TCP/IP. The ez/Signon Server listens on a configurable port for incoming connections. The RACF Interface interacts with RACF using standard z/OS system calls.
The system does not use a dedicated database for user data; instead, it relies on RACF for user profile information. The configuration files are used to define server settings, authentication methods, and application access rules. The administrative interfaces, including the CLI and GUI, allow administrators to manage the system and monitor its performance.
The system provides audit logging capabilities to track user activity and security-related events. The security model is based on the access control model defined within RACF.
