The architecture of Vanguard inCompliance is centered around three primary components: the Web Application Server, the RACF Data Collector, and the Reporting Engine. The Web Application Server is the central point of interaction, providing the user interface and handling user requests. It is responsible for authentication, authorization, and session management.
The RACF Data Collector is a critical component that retrieves data from the RACF database on z/OS. It uses TCP/IP to communicate with the z/OS system and access RACF data. The Reporting Engine processes the data collected by the RACF Data Collector and generates compliance reports.
It uses a relational database to store configuration data, user information, and reporting data. The communication between the components is secured using HTTPS for the web interface and TCP/IP for internal communication. The Web Application Server communicates with the RACF Data Collector to retrieve data, and the Reporting Engine accesses the data from the database.
The tool supports user ID and password authentication, with options for integration with LDAP and Kerberos. Access control is managed using RBAC, with roles and permissions defined within the system. The tool provides audit logging of user activities, including login attempts, configuration changes, and data access.
The audit logs can be used to track and investigate security incidents. The tool integrates with the z/OS environment via the RACF Data Collector, which retrieves data from the RACF database.
