The architecture of Alter for DB2 is centered around an ISPF-based application running on z/OS. The main components include the ISPF Dialog Manager, the Resource Catalog Interface, the Change Generation Engine, and the Command Execution Module. The ISPF Dialog Manager provides the user interface and handles user interactions.
The Resource Catalog Interface interacts with Db2 to retrieve metadata about database objects. The Change Generation Engine analyzes the selected objects and generates the necessary DDL, Db2 commands, and IDCAMS statements. The Command Execution Module executes these generated statements against the Db2 subsystem.
Data storage relies on Db2 for storing metadata and configuration information. Communication between components occurs through ISPF services and Db2 APIs. There are no specific network ports or protocols beyond those required for ISPF and Db2.
