The architecture of DB2 Forms comprised three main components: the design environment, the runtime engine, and data access components. The design environment, a Windows-based GUI, allowed developers to visually design forms and connect to DB2 databases. The runtime engine executed the applications created in the design environment.
Data access components handled communication with DB2 databases using DRDA. The design environment generated application code that was interpreted by the runtime engine. Communication between the design environment and the runtime engine was handled through proprietary protocols.
Data storage was primarily within the DB2 databases. Network requirements included connectivity to the DB2 server via TCP/IP. DB2 Forms is not supported.
Consider IBM App Connect Enterprise or Microsoft Power Apps for similar functionality.
