The architecture of BMC AMI Storage FDRABR is designed for high performance and reliability on z/OS. The core components include the FDR control program, data movers, and catalog management interfaces. The FDR control program manages the overall backup and recovery processes, coordinating the activities of other components.
Data movers are responsible for the actual data transfer operations, utilizing optimized I/O techniques to ensure efficient data movement. The catalog management interfaces interact with the z/OS catalog to track and manage datasets. Communication between these components is primarily through z/OS system services and I/O operations.
The system uses JCL control cards and parameter statements within the FDR control file for configuration. The native API provides interfaces for integration with other z/OS applications. Security is handled through RACF, ensuring that only authorized users can access and modify data.
Compared to IBM DFSMSdss, FDRABR offers enhanced features for application-aware backups and granular control. The product supports various data compression and deduplication techniques to optimize storage utilization. Monitoring and logging are provided through z/OS system logs and FDRABR's own logging facilities, which provide detailed information on backup and recovery operations.
