Product Overview

The architecture of BMC AMI Storage FDRMOVE is centered around efficient dataset movement within a z/OS environment. The main components include the FDRMOVE engine, which orchestrates the data transfer; the control file processor, which parses and validates JCL control statements; and the I/O interface, which handles the interaction with the storage devices. When FDRPAS is enabled, it acts as a high-performance data mover, optimizing the data transfer process through parallel I/O operations.

Communication between components is primarily handled through z/OS system services. The FDRMOVE engine uses these services to initiate and manage data transfers, while the control file processor provides the necessary parameters and instructions. Data transfer occurs directly between storage devices, with FDRMOVE coordinating the process based on the JCL control statements.

FDRMOVE does not use a dedicated database or storage mechanism for its operations. It relies on the z/OS system's I/O capabilities to read and write data directly to the source and destination volumes. The primary configuration is managed through JCL control statements, which specify the source and destination volumes, dataset selection criteria, and operational parameters.

There are no specific network ports or requirements beyond the standard z/OS system I/O configuration. Compared to IBM's DFSMSdss, FDRMOVE often provides faster data movement, especially when using FDRPAS. The product also includes utilities like SIMMOVE for simulation and FDRINITV for volume initialization.
