The CA Copycat architecture comprises several key components. The Copycat engine is the core, responsible for processing copy requests. The control statement processor interprets user-defined instructions, defining copy jobs and parameters.
Communication between components occurs through JCL and system services. Data is stored on tape volumes, and control datasets are used for configuration and operation tracking. There are no REST or SOAP APIs.
Integration is achieved through JCL and system calls. The COPY command is a core function. Administrative interfaces include JCL-based control statements and system logs for monitoring.
User management is handled through z/OS security. Configuration parameters include tape drive definitions, dataset specifications, and compression options. Monitoring is achieved through system logs and CA-1 or CA TLMS reporting.
Security features include integration with z/OS security for access control. CA Copycat supports data encryption during tape operations. Audit logging is available through system logs.
Compared to manual tape management, CA Copycat automates and optimizes tape operations. Unlike some competitors, CA Copycat provides integrated tape stacking and data compression capabilities. Example: //COPYJOB JOB ...
