Product Overview

The architecture of CICS/Swap comprises several key components designed to facilitate multi-session management within a CICS environment. The primary components include the Swap Manager, Session Controller, and Terminal Interface. The Swap Manager is the central component, responsible for managing the creation, switching, and termination of sessions.

It interacts with the Session Controller to handle the actual switching of terminal input and output between different CICS applications. The Session Controller manages the interaction between the terminal and the CICS applications, ensuring that the correct data is routed to the appropriate session. The Terminal Interface handles the terminal I/O, translating the terminal input into the appropriate format for CICS and routing the output back to the terminal.

Communication between these components occurs through internal CICS mechanisms, leveraging CICS services for session management and data transfer. CICS/Swap does not use any external databases or storage mechanisms beyond CICS. Configuration is primarily managed through configuration files that define terminal and session parameters.

The CLI provides administrative access for configuration and monitoring. Security is integrated with existing CICS security, supporting authentication methods such as RACF. Audit logging is available for security and operational purposes.

The product's design focuses on minimizing overhead and maximizing performance within the CICS environment. The product's architecture is designed to be non-intrusive, integrating seamlessly with existing CICS applications and infrastructure. The product's design ensures minimal impact on existing CICS applications.
