Product Overview

The CL/Gateway architecture is composed of several key components designed to facilitate 3270 session access on z/OS. The Gateway Server is the central point of contact, handling user authentication, session selection, and initial connection establishment. The Session Manager is responsible for managing active sessions, monitoring their status, and handling disconnections.

The VTAM Interface provides the communication layer between the Gateway and the VTAM environment, enabling the connection to 3270 applications. These components communicate using internal protocols, optimized for performance within the z/OS environment. Data storage relies on z/OS file systems for configuration and logging.

The CLI provides administrative control, with commands such as `START SESSION `, `STOP SESSION `, `ADD USER `, `DELETE USER `, `MODIFY USER `, `LIST SESSIONS`, `LIST USERS`, and `SHOW CONFIG`. The product is no longer supported; migrate to a supported terminal emulation solution.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary function of CL/Gateway?

CL/Gateway provides a centralized interface for accessing 3270 applications on z/OS. Users log in to the Gateway and are presented with a list of available sessions. They can then select a session to establish a connection. This is similar to CL/Supersession, but only allows one VTAM session at a time.

What problem does CL/Gateway solve?

CL/Gateway is designed to simplify access to 3270 applications. It presents a user-friendly interface for selecting and connecting to available sessions, streamlining the process of accessing mainframe applications.

How does CL/Gateway manage user sessions?

CL/Gateway allows users to connect to a single VTAM session at a time, providing a focused and controlled access point to mainframe applications. It offers a streamlined approach compared to managing multiple concurrent sessions.

How does CL/Gateway compare to CL/Supersession?

CL/Gateway is similar to CL/Supersession in terms of its user interface and the applications it provides access to. However, CL/Gateway is limited to a single VTAM session per user, while CL/Supersession allows multiple concurrent sessions.
