Product Overview

The Datastar architecture comprised several key components: the TN3270 server, the Telnet gateway, the SNA gateway, and the configuration manager. The TN3270 server handled incoming TN3270 connections, translating them for mainframe communication. The Telnet gateway provided connectivity for Telnet clients, while the SNA gateway facilitated communication with mainframe systems using SNA protocols.

The configuration manager, accessed via the command-line interface (CLI), allowed administrators to configure network settings, port assignments, and user accounts. Communication between components was primarily internal, managed by the Datastar software. There were no external APIs.

Datastar did not use any specific databases or storage mechanisms for persistent data beyond configuration files. Network requirements included connectivity to the mainframe and client terminals via TCP/IP and SNA. For example, to configure the TN3270 port, the command would be similar to: `dsadmin config set tn3270_port 23`.

Datastar has been merged into Apertus Enterprise/Connect.
