The architecture of DR/Xpert is centered around several key components designed to automate and streamline disaster recovery processes on z/OS. The Data Set Inventory is the core component, responsible for maintaining a list of critical datasets that require backup. This inventory is used by the Backup Manager, which initiates and manages the backup operations using DFSMSdss, ABARS, FDR, or CA Disk.
The Restore Manager handles the restoration of datasets from backups. Communication between these components occurs through z/OS system calls and TCP/IP for network-based interactions. The GUI provides a user-friendly interface for managing the system, while the CLI allows for scripting and automation.
The product integrates with the z/OS security system (RACF, ACF2, Top Secret) for authentication and access control. The Data Set Inventory is stored in a VSAM file, and backup metadata is stored in a DB2 database. The GUI and CLI provide interfaces for monitoring and managing the backup and restore processes.
The system leverages the existing z/OS infrastructure for data access and security.
