Product Overview

The architecture of FPOR/EP comprises several key components designed to facilitate online restructuring of IMS DEDB databases. The Control Program is the central component, managing the overall restructure process. The Data Mover handles the transfer of data between the old and new database structures.

The Logging and Audit components track all operations, providing detailed information for monitoring and troubleshooting. Communication between these components occurs through IMS control blocks and internal interfaces. FPOR/EP uses IMS databases for storing metadata related to the restructure process.

These databases store information about the database structure, the changes being made, and the progress of the restructure. The ISPF interface provides the primary administrative interface, allowing users to define restructure parameters, initiate the process, and monitor progress. The ISPF interface communicates with the Control Program to manage the restructure.

The Data Mover interacts directly with the IMS database to transfer data. The Logging and Audit components write to log files and IMS log datasets. Network requirements are minimal, as all communication occurs within the z/OS environment.

The main ports used are those associated with IMS and z/OS services. The `FPOR DEFINE` command is used to define the restructure parameters, and the `FPOR START` command initiates the process. The `FPOR STATUS` command provides real-time monitoring.

The ISPF interface provides a user-friendly way to define and monitor restructures. User management relies on standard z/OS security, such as RACF or ACF2, for access control. Configuration parameters include specifications for data movement, segment reformatting, and index updates.

Monitoring is provided through ISPF panels and log files, detailing the progress and status of the restructure.
