The Host on Demand (HOD) architecture comprises several key components. The HOD server acts as the central point of contact, managing sessions and handling communication with host systems. The client, which can be a Java applet or an HTML5-based application, provides the user interface within a web browser.
Communication between the client and server, and between the server and host systems, is facilitated using protocols such as TN3270, TN5250, and VT100. The server uses configuration files to define host connections, security settings, and user preferences. Authentication is handled through methods like user ID/password, Kerberos, and client certificates.
SSL/TLS encryption secures the data transmission. The administrative console provides a web-based interface for managing the server, configuring host connections, and monitoring system performance. The HOD server typically uses file-based storage for configuration data.
Network requirements include connectivity between the client and the HOD server, and between the HOD server and the host systems, using standard ports for TN3270 (port 23), TN5250 (port 23), and HTTP/HTTPS.
