Product Overview
The architecture of ICON is centered around several key components designed to provide a robust source code analysis solution. The Source Code Analyzer is responsible for parsing and interpreting source code written in COBOL, PL/I, and Assembler. It extracts information about modules, subroutines, and data structures.
The Dependency Mapper then analyzes the parsed code to identify relationships between different code elements, including database interactions and file dependencies. This component creates a comprehensive map of the application's architecture. The Reporting Engine generates various reports and visualizations based on the analysis results.
It uses DB2 to store metadata about the analyzed source code, application structures, and dependencies. Communication between components is facilitated through inter-process communication (IPC) mechanisms on z/OS. The system uses standard TCP/IP for network communication and file transfer protocols like FTP or SFTP for transferring data.
The CLI and web GUI provide access to functionalities. Authentication is handled through user IDs and passwords, with RBAC for access control.
