The architecture of H2R comprises several key components designed to facilitate the migration of IMS databases to relational databases. The primary components include the IMS Analyzer, Data Mapper, Code Generator, and Execution Engine. The IMS Analyzer is responsible for examining the structure of the IMS database, including data definitions and relationships.
The Data Mapper transforms the data from the IMS format to the target RDBMS format, using mapping rules defined in configuration files. The Code Generator produces the necessary import programs and scripts for the target database, such as DB2 or Oracle. The Execution Engine orchestrates the migration process, executing the generated scripts and managing the data transfer.
Communication between components is primarily internal, with data and control flow managed through the CLI and configuration files. H2R utilizes configuration files, typically in XML or a proprietary format, to define database connection parameters, data mapping rules, and other operational settings. The tool operates on z/OS.
The target databases, such as DB2 or Oracle, serve as the storage mechanism for the migrated data. There are no specific network port requirements for H2R itself, as it operates within the z/OS environment. Security is handled by the target RDBMS, and H2R does not provide any direct security features.
