The architecture of PIE/TSO MultiTASK is centered around three primary components: the MultiTASK Manager, the Task Initiator, and the Task Monitor. The MultiTASK Manager is responsible for overall task scheduling and resource allocation, ensuring that background tasks are managed efficiently. The Task Initiator is responsible for starting the background tasks, while the Task Monitor provides real-time status updates and allows for task control.
Communication between these components occurs through internal z/OS system services and control blocks, optimized for the z/OS environment. There are no external APIs. The product leverages the existing z/OS security infrastructure, such as RACF, for authentication and access control, ensuring that user access is managed securely.
Logging is integrated with z/OS facilities, providing comprehensive audit trails. The 'MTASK SUBMIT' command is used to submit tasks to the background, with parameters specifying the job name and any necessary input. Configuration parameters include settings for task limits, resource allocation, and logging levels, which are typically set through system configuration files or TSO commands.
This design ensures efficient multitasking within the TSO environment, improving user productivity and resource utilization.
