The architecture of Rocket PreAlert is designed for scalability and high availability. The main components include the PreAlert Agent, the PreAlert Console, and the reporting database. The PreAlert Agent is deployed on the z/OS or zVSE/VSEn system and collects performance metrics from CA IDMS.
It communicates with the PreAlert Console using TCP/IP. The PreAlert Console is a Java-based application that provides a user interface for monitoring, alerting, and reporting. It connects to the reporting database to store and retrieve historical performance data.
The reporting database can be a relational database such as DB2 or a flat file system. The communication between the agent and the console uses a proprietary protocol over TCP/IP. CNTL` file is used for configuration, including threshold settings, alert definitions, and data collection intervals.
The product does not expose a REST API, but it provides a command-line interface (CLI) for scripting and automation. The CLI commands include `DISPLAY STATUS`, `SHOW TASKS`, `TRACE EVENTS`, and `SET THRESHOLD`. PreAlert supports integration with other monitoring tools through its data export capabilities.
The product's architecture is designed to minimize resource consumption on the monitored systems while providing comprehensive performance data.
