The Session Manager interacts with the Emulation Engine to apply the settings defined in the session profiles. The Emulation Engine then interacts with the Communication Layer to send and receive data over the network. SmarTerm does not use a dedicated database for storing core data.

Instead, it relies on session profiles, which are stored as files. These files contain all the necessary information for establishing and maintaining connections to host systems. The software requires specific network ports to be open for communication.

For example, TN3270 typically uses port 23, while TN5250 uses port 23 for non-secure connections. Secure connections are established using SSL/TLS encryption, which requires the appropriate ports to be open for secure communication. The software's design prioritizes ease of use and flexibility, allowing for customization and integration with existing IT infrastructure.

The architecture supports various terminal types and host systems, making it a versatile solution for terminal emulation needs.
