SMFVIEW

The architecture of SMFVIEW is centered around several key components that work in concert to provide SMF record viewing capabilities. The primary components include the SMF data set reader, responsible for accessing the specified SMF data sets; the record parser, which interprets the SMF records based on their type; the display formatter, which presents the data in a readable format; and the error handler, which manages any errors encountered during processing. These components communicate through the z/OS operating system.

SMFVIEW uses JCL to define input data sets and output destinations. Configuration parameters are specified within the JCL or through system defaults. SMFVIEW does not expose any APIs.

Integration is achieved through JCL batch jobs and interactive TSO/ISPF sessions. The primary communication protocol is through the z/OS operating system. SMFVIEW leverages the z/OS auditing and logging mechanisms.

Access to SMFVIEW and the data it processes can be audited through SMF records, providing a detailed trail of user activity. Compared to other tools, SMFVIEW offers direct access to SMF data without requiring external interfaces or complex configurations.
