The architecture of SMS/Debug centers around several key components designed to facilitate the testing and debugging of DFSMS ACS routines. The ACS Routine Simulator is the core component, responsible for emulating the execution of ACS routines against specified datasets. The Rule Tester allows for the validation of individual rules within the ACS routines, ensuring they function as intended.
The Trace Facility provides detailed logging and monitoring of routine execution, capturing information about rule evaluation and data classification. The Configuration Manager handles the setup and management of testing scenarios and rule sets. These components communicate through internal system interfaces and leverage z/OS system services.
Data is stored using z/OS system datasets and configuration files. The CLI provides the primary administrative interface, with commands such as SIMULATE, TESTRULE, TRACE, and CONFIGURE. SMS/Debug does not expose external APIs.
The tool integrates with the z/OS security infrastructure, supporting RBAC through security managers like RACF. The audit trail is integrated with z/OS logging.
