Tachyon File Tools

The architecture of Tachyon File Tools is centered around standalone utilities that operate on a PC, designed to interact with mainframe file formats. The main components include: Tachyon Un-Xmit, the Tachyon Update Utility, and the Tachyon Linkage Editor. Tachyon Un-Xmit extracts data from TSO TRANSMIT (XMIT) files.

The Tachyon Update Utility provides functionality similar to IEBUPDTE for updating datasets. The Tachyon Linkage Editor creates mainframe load modules. Communication between components is minimal, as each utility functions independently, processing files directly on the local file system.

There are no inter-process communications or network dependencies. Data storage relies on the local file system. Configuration is primarily managed through command-line options and control files specific to each utility.

For example, the Update Utility uses control files to specify update actions. The tools do not use any specific databases. Security relies on the operating system's access controls, with no built-in authentication or encryption.
