Product Overview

The architecture of OMEGACENTER Gateway comprised several key components designed to facilitate communication and automation between different systems. The NetView interface was responsible for receiving and sending messages to and from NetView. The Omegamon interfaces (CICS, IMS, MVS) were designed to receive alerts from the respective Omegamon products.

A REXX execution engine was used to execute REXX scripts, enabling automated responses to alerts. Configuration files defined the connections to other systems, alert definitions, and actions to be taken. The product did not expose modern APIs.

Communication between components relied on proprietary protocols and interfaces specific to the integrated products. For example, when an alert was triggered in Omegamon, the corresponding Omegamon interface would forward the alert to the Gateway. The Gateway would then use the REXX execution engine to run a predefined script, which could send a message to NetView or trigger an action in Tivoli Monitoring.

Since the product is no longer supported, organizations should consider IBM Z System Automation for a modern architecture.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary function of OMEGACENTER Gateway?

OMEGACENTER Gateway facilitates two-way communication between classic Candle products and other systems. It enables actions based on Omegamon alerts, including setting Tivoli Monitoring alerts, issuing console messages, or setting NetView alerts. It supports REXX scripting for automation.

Which products does OMEGACENTER Gateway integrate with?

The product integrates with several Candle products, including Tivoli AF/Operator, Omegamon II for CICS, Omegamon II for MVS, and Omegaview. It also supports integration with Tivoli NetView and Tivoli Monitoring, using the Tivoli Alert Adapter for Omegacenter Gateway.

How does OMEGACENTER Gateway automate responses to alerts?

OMEGACENTER Gateway allows you to automatically trigger operations when an Omegamon alert occurs. These operations can include setting a Tivoli Monitoring alert, issuing console messages, or setting a NetView alert. This automation is a core feature of the product.

What scripting language is supported?

The product supports REXX scripting, enabling users to execute REXX execs from both Omegacenter Gateway and NetView. This allows for customized automation and integration with existing scripts.
