Tools4CICS

The architecture of Tools4CICS is centered around its integration within the CICS environment. The main components, Help4CICS, Notes4CICS, Word4CICS, and Spell4CICS, are implemented as CICS programs that are invoked via transaction IDs. These components interact with CICS resources using standard CICS APIs.

There are no external APIs exposed. The utilities do not use external databases or storage mechanisms beyond what is provided by CICS. Communication between components is managed through CICS internal mechanisms.

For example, when a user enters the 'HELP' transaction, CICS invokes the Help4CICS program. Help4CICS then retrieves and displays documentation. Similarly, Notes4CICS allows users to create and manage notes associated with CICS applications.

Word4CICS provides text formatting capabilities, and Spell4CICS offers spell-checking functionality. Security is managed through CICS security settings, including user authentication and authorization. Configuration parameters are primarily managed through CICS resource definitions and system initialization parameters.

Monitoring and logging leverage CICS's built-in facilities, including transaction logging and performance monitoring. Tools4CICS supports z/OS and zVSE/VSEn platforms. The design emphasizes ease of use and seamless integration within the CICS environment, minimizing the need for custom coding and complex integrations.
