Share Your ExperienceProduct Overview
The architecture of XL C/C++ for z/OS comprises several key components. The compiler front end parses the source code, performing lexical analysis, syntax analysis, and semantic analysis. The optimizer then analyzes the code and applies various transformations to improve performance.
The code generator translates the optimized code into machine code specific to the z/Architecture. The linker combines the object files produced by the code generator, along with any required libraries, to create an executable program. The compiler interacts with the z/OS environment through several interfaces.
It uses system libraries for standard functions and services. JCL is used to control the compilation and linking processes. The z/OS Debugger is used for debugging.
The compiler supports various C and C++ standards, including C++11. Metal C allows for writing code without the z/OS Language Environment. The compiler is installed and maintained using SMP/E.
Compared to other compilers, XL C/C++ for z/OS provides superior optimization for z/Architecture and deep integration with the z/OS ecosystem.
