The architecture of CA Vision:Inquiry comprised several key components. The Report Definition component allowed users to define reports using a proprietary query language. The Data Access component handled data retrieval from IMS databases, VSAM files, and other z/OS datasets.
The Output Formatting component formatted the retrieved data into various output formats. These components communicated internally using z/OS facilities. The system used configuration files to define data sources, report layouts, and output destinations.
The system did not expose any APIs. The system relied on z/OS security features for authentication and authorization. The system supported various output formats, including printed reports and files.
The system is no longer supported; users should migrate to modern reporting tools. The main competing products were IBM Db2 QMF and SAS Visual Analytics. Unlike CA Vision:Inquiry, these products offer modern features and ongoing support.
