The architecture of CDB/QUIESCE for DB2 comprises several key components that work together to create a consistent recovery point. The primary component is the QUIESCE execution module, which orchestrates the entire process. This module interacts with the Db2 database to flush buffer pools and create a sync point.
The buffer pool flush mechanism ensures that all modified data pages are written to disk, guaranteeing data consistency. The sync point creation process establishes a known state for the database, allowing for reliable backups. Communication with Db2 occurs using standard Db2 protocols.
The utility is administered via a command-line interface (CLI) on z/OS. Configuration parameters, such as database names and logging options, are typically stored in configuration files. The utility integrates with the z/OS security infrastructure, including RACF, for authentication and access control.
Monitoring and logging capabilities are provided to track the progress of QUIESCE operations. The utility does not expose any APIs for direct integration. The design focuses on simplicity and reliability, ensuring a consistent and efficient QUIESCE process.
The CLI provides direct control over the QUIESCE operations.
