Product Overview

The architecture of BMC AMI Storage FDRINSTANT is centered around its ability to orchestrate hardware-based data replication for instant backups. The core components include the FDRINSTANT control program, the hardware replication interface, and data set management modules. The FDRINSTANT control program acts as the central coordinator, managing the backup process and interacting with the z/OS operating system.

, IBM FlashCopy, EMC TimeFinder) to initiate and manage the replication process. Data set management modules handle the selection and processing of data sets for backup. Communication between these components occurs through z/OS system services and hardware-specific APIs.

There are no external network protocols used. Configuration files store backup policies, hardware device definitions, and other operational parameters. The ISPF interface provides a user-friendly way to manage these configurations.

Security is integrated with the z/OS security model, using RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret for access control. The system leverages z/OS logging and auditing facilities for monitoring and security events. Unlike some competing products that may rely on software-based replication, FDRINSTANT leverages the performance benefits of hardware replication, resulting in minimal impact on system resources during backups.
