Adabas Fastpath

The architecture of Adabas Fastpath comprises several key components designed to optimize ADABAS database performance. The central component is the Fastpath server, which resides in the same address space as the ADABAS nucleus. This server intercepts ADABAS calls and manages the caching process.

The cache manager is responsible for storing and retrieving frequently accessed data. It utilizes a memory-based cache to ensure rapid data access. The ADABAS interface ensures seamless integration with the ADABAS database.

Communication between these components occurs primarily through shared memory and system calls, enabling efficient data transfer and minimal overhead. The Fastpath server monitors ADABAS calls and determines which data should be cached based on predefined rules and access patterns. The cache manager then stores this data in memory, allowing subsequent requests for the same data to be served directly from the cache, bypassing the need to access the database.

The Fastpath parameter file is used to configure the cache size, refresh intervals, and other performance-related settings. The `FPMONITOR` command provides real-time statistics on cache hit rates, CPU usage, and other performance metrics. The product does not use any external databases or storage mechanisms beyond the ADABAS database itself.

Network requirements are minimal, as communication occurs primarily within the z/OS or z/VM environment.
