Control-O

The Control-O architecture comprises several key components designed for efficient workload automation on z/OS. The Control-O Server is the central control point, responsible for managing job definitions, schedules, and system configurations. It communicates with the Control-O Monitor and Agents.

The Control-O Monitor provides real-time status updates, alerts, and performance metrics. It interacts with the Server to receive configuration updates and send status information. The Control-O Agent resides on each z/OS system and executes jobs based on instructions from the Server.

Communication between these components occurs over TCP/IP. Data storage utilizes VSAM datasets for configuration data and job definitions, and a relational database for historical information and audit logs. The system supports various authentication methods, including RACF, and uses an access control model based on user roles and permissions.

The administrative interfaces include a command-line interface (CLI) and a graphical user interface (GUI). The CLI allows for scripting and automation, while the GUI provides a user-friendly interface for managing jobs and system settings. Security is a core design consideration, with encryption used to protect sensitive data both in transit and at rest.

Audit trails and logging capabilities provide comprehensive records of user actions and system events.
