The architecture of DFSMStvs centers around three core components: the Transaction Manager, the VSAM Resource Manager, and the Recovery Manager. The Transaction Manager coordinates transactions, ensuring atomicity, consistency, isolation, and durability (ACID properties). The VSAM Resource Manager handles serialization and manages access to VSAM datasets, preventing conflicts between concurrent updates.
The Recovery Manager ensures data integrity through write-ahead logging. Communication between these components occurs via internal z/OS system services and interfaces. DFSMStvs leverages the z/OS operating system's facilities for inter-process communication and resource management.
Data is stored in VSAM datasets, with transaction logs maintained for recovery purposes. There are no specific network ports required, as communication is internal to the z/OS environment. The system integrates with z/OS security, using RACF or equivalent for access control.
Monitoring is achieved through z/OS and CICS monitoring tools, providing insights into transaction activity and resource utilization. Compared to other solutions, DFSMStvs offers a tightly integrated solution within the z/OS ecosystem, minimizing external dependencies and simplifying management.
