Product Overview

The architecture of Eclipse iUnload comprised three main components: the Unload Engine, Input Processor, and Output Writer. The Unload Engine served as the central orchestrator, managing the overall unload process. The Input Processor was responsible for reading data from the IMS database, handling data access and retrieval.

The Output Writer formatted and wrote the extracted data to the specified output datasets, supporting various formats such as CSV. Communication between these components occurred through z/OS system services, ensuring efficient data transfer within the z/OS environment. Configuration was managed through JCL and control cards, allowing users to define input and output datasets, data formatting options, and other parameters.

The UNLOAD command was the primary operation, with syntax such as `UNLOAD DDNAME(IMSDBDD) OUTDD(UNLOADDS) FORMAT(CSV)`. Security was integrated through the z/OS security infrastructure, including RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret, for authentication and access control. The product is not supported; therefore, a migration to a supported solution is required.

BMC AMI Unload for IMS is a suitable replacement, offering similar functionality.
