EZ-RSTU for IDMS

The architecture of EZ-RSTU for IDMS comprised several key components. The RSTU engine was the core, responsible for orchestrating the restructuring process. The IDMS interface provided the connection to the CA IDMS database, enabling interaction with the data and metadata.

The utility was accessed through JCL and control cards. The configuration was defined in JCL and control cards, specifying input and output database definitions, restructuring options, and other operational settings. The communication between components occurred through z/OS system services and IDMS internal mechanisms.

The utility did not have its own dedicated database; it utilized the IDMS database for storage. Security was integrated with z/OS and CA IDMS security features, using RACF for access control. The utility operated within the z/OS environment, with minimal network requirements.

EZ-RSTU for IDMS has been merged into EZ-DB for IDMS. Migration involves updating JCL and control cards to use EZ-DB for IDMS commands. The main technical advantage was the ability to modify the database schema while the database remained online for read and update operations.

The utility did not have its own dedicated database.
