Product Overview

The architecture of Irma comprised three main components: the terminal emulator, the communication module, and the user interface. The terminal emulator was responsible for emulating a 3270 terminal, translating user input into the appropriate 3270 data streams, and displaying the mainframe output. The communication module managed the network connections, supporting protocols such as TN3270 and SNA.

The user interface provided the graphical environment for user interaction, including features like customizable keyboard mappings and macro definitions. Configuration files stored connection settings, keyboard mappings, and macro definitions. The command structure involved actions such as connecting to a host, disconnecting, sending commands, and initiating macros.

Irma did not provide any APIs for external integration. Authentication was based on user IDs and passwords, relying on the mainframe's security. Access control was managed by the mainframe's security policies.

Irma is no longer supported. Migration to alternative emulators such as Reflection for IBM involves configuring the new emulator with the necessary connection settings and keyboard mappings.
