The architecture of Omegamon II for DB2 comprised three primary components: the Data Collector, the Data Server, and the user interface. The Data Collector, a z/OS-resident component, gathered performance metrics directly from the DB2 subsystem. It utilized internal DB2 interfaces to access performance data, such as statistics on database activity, buffer pool usage, and active threads.
The Data Server, also running on z/OS, received the data from the Data Collector. It processed, stored, and made the data available for analysis. The Data Server used VSAM datasets for storing historical performance data.
The user interface provided a graphical view of the performance data, allowing users to monitor the database in real-time. The interface offered drop-down screens, improved graphical displays, and pop-up messages. The product used a proprietary API for data collection and analysis.
The product is not supported; users should migrate to a supported solution such as Omegamon XE for DB2.
