The architecture of Page Printer Formatting Aid consists of several key components: the formatter engine, input data reader, control file interpreter, and output writer. The formatter engine is the core component responsible for transforming the input data based on the rules defined in the control file. The input data reader handles the retrieval of EBCDIC or ASCII data from datasets.
The control file interpreter parses the control file, extracting formatting instructions. The output writer formats the data into AFP/IPDS and sends it to the printer. Communication between components is primarily internal, managed through the product's internal processes.
The tool uses datasets for input and output, and control files for configuration. There are no network ports or specific database requirements. Security relies on the underlying z/OS, z/VM, or zVSE/VSEn security mechanisms.
The tool does not offer direct integration with modern CI/CD pipelines.
