The architecture of PIE/TSO Network Access comprises several key components. The PIE/TSO Server is the central component, managing all client connections and interactions. The VTAM Interface handles communication with VTAM applications, translating between TSO commands and VTAM protocols.
The TSO Interface provides the user interface within the TSO environment, allowing users to issue commands and receive responses. These components communicate using TCP/IP for network traffic and internal z/OS mechanisms for inter-process communication. Configuration data, including application IDs and network settings, is stored in z/OS datasets.
The product uses standard TCP/IP ports for communication, typically port 23 for Telnet-based connections. Security is managed through RACF, which provides authentication and authorization. The product also includes comprehensive logging capabilities, capturing all network interactions and system events.
This architecture ensures a secure and efficient way to access VTAM applications from TSO.
