Share Your ExperienceProduct Overview
The architecture of Real Time Defrag consists of three primary components: the Disk Monitor, the File Mover, and the Configuration Manager. The Disk Monitor continuously monitors disk activity using z/OS system calls, identifying fragmented files and tracking I/O performance. The File Mover, operating as a background process, rearranges fragmented files to contiguous locations on the disk.
This process is optimized to minimize impact on system performance. The Configuration Manager provides an interface for setting policies, thresholds, and scheduling parameters. Communication between components is handled via inter-process communication (IPC) mechanisms provided by the z/OS operating system.
The product integrates with the z/OS security infrastructure, supporting role-based access control (RBAC) through RACF or equivalent security managers. Audit logging is provided for security monitoring. The system uses a proprietary configuration file to store settings.
The GUI provides a visual representation of disk fragmentation and real-time monitoring. The product's design emphasizes transparency, minimizing impact on normal operations.
