Product Overview
The RMS/Spool architecture is composed of several key components designed to manage the report lifecycle efficiently. The Report Submission Interface is the entry point, accepting reports from various sources. The Spool Manager then processes these reports, handling queuing and initial processing tasks.
The Archiving Engine is responsible for storing reports, utilizing file systems for persistent storage. The Distribution Module handles the distribution of reports to various destinations, including printers via VTAM and TCP/IP. The Access Interface provides multiple access methods, including RMS/Desktop, RMS/Online (CICS), and RMS/WebAccess.
Communication between components is primarily internal, using system-level services and file I/O. The system integrates with the underlying operating system's security features, such as RACF on z/OS, for authentication and access control. Configuration is managed through system console commands and configuration files.
Monitoring and logging are provided through system-level tools, capturing events related to report processing, access, and distribution. Unlike some competitors, RMS/Spool offers deep integration with mainframe environments, providing a comprehensive solution for report lifecycle management.
