Shadow z/Services

The architecture of Shadow z/Services is centered around three core components: the Gateway, the Data component, and the Consumption component. The Gateway acts as a translator, converting mainframe screens and logic into web services. It intercepts user interactions and translates them into SOAP requests, which are then processed by the appropriate mainframe applications.

The Data component provides SOAP access to mainframe databases, including DB2, IMS, VSAM, and Adabas. It handles the mapping of data between the mainframe and the web service format. The Consumption component allows mainframe applications to consume external web services.

It handles the creation and processing of SOAP requests to external services and the integration of the responses. Communication between these components and external systems occurs over HTTP/HTTPS using SOAP. The system leverages the mainframe's existing security infrastructure for authentication and authorization.

Configuration is managed through CLI and potentially a web console, allowing administrators to define web service endpoints, data mappings, and security policies. Monitoring and logging are essential for maintaining system health and performance.
