Product Overview

The architecture of Shadow z/Web Server is designed to provide a robust and secure web interface to legacy applications running on z/OS and z/VM. The core components include the Web Server, Application Server, and Gateway. The Web Server handles incoming HTTP/HTTPS requests, managing sessions and security protocols.

The Application Server processes the application logic and interacts with the Gateway. The Gateway acts as an intermediary, translating web requests into formats compatible with CICS or IMS transactions and presenting the results back to the web client. Communication between these components is typically internal, using optimized protocols for performance.

The server uses configuration files to define network settings, security protocols, and application server connections. The product supports RESTful APIs for integration with web applications. 509 certificates for authentication, and RBAC for access control.

The server provides comprehensive logging and monitoring capabilities, including detailed logs of user activities, security events, and system operations. The administrative interfaces include a web console and CLI, providing flexibility in managing the server.
