The architecture of Strobe comprises several key components: the Strobe Agent, the Data Collector, the Analysis Engine, and the Reporting Module. The Strobe Agent, installed on the z/OS system, collects performance data from monitored applications. This data includes CPU time, I/O operations, and wait times.
The Data Collector receives data from the Agent and performs initial processing. The Analysis Engine then analyzes the data, identifying performance bottlenecks and generating detailed metrics. The Reporting Module presents the analyzed data through the iStrobe GUI and CLI reports.
Communication between components uses standard TCP/IP protocols. The Data Collector stores data in VSAM datasets, optimized for high-volume data storage and retrieval. Security is managed through RACF and RBAC, ensuring that only authorized users can access the system.
The CLI provides commands such as `START`, `STOP`, and `REPORT` for managing sessions and generating reports. AutoStrobe can be configured to automatically analyze programs when abnormal behavior is detected. Compared to other tools, Strobe provides a comprehensive view of application performance, enabling detailed analysis and optimization.
