Thread/SENTRY

Thread/SENTRY's architecture comprises several key components: the Monitor, the Rule Engine, and the Reporting Engine. The Monitor is responsible for collecting real-time data on DB2 threads and locks. It interfaces directly with DB2 to gather performance metrics, including thread status, lock contention, and resource utilization.

The Rule Engine processes the data collected by the Monitor and applies user-defined rules to manage threads. These rules can trigger actions such as terminating runaway threads or sending alerts based on predefined thresholds. The Reporting Engine generates reports on thread activity, performance metrics, and potential bottlenecks.

These reports provide insights into DB2 performance and help identify areas for optimization. The system uses an ISPF interface for administration and configuration, and batch jobs for automated tasks. Communication between components occurs through z/OS internal mechanisms.

The system uses z/OS datasets for storage of configuration and historical data. Network requirements are minimal, as the system primarily operates within the z/OS environment. The product's primary function is to proactively manage DB2 threads, improving performance and stability.

It was originally developed by Relational Architects and acquired by Broadcom.
