The architecture of Tivoli Omegamon for VM is a distributed system designed for monitoring z/VM and z/Linux guest environments. The core components include the monitoring agent, the data collector, and the Tivoli Enterprise Portal. The monitoring agent, installed on the z/VM system, collects performance metrics such as CPU utilization, memory usage, and I/O statistics.
The data collector processes the data collected by the agent and stores it for analysis. The Tivoli Enterprise Portal provides a graphical user interface for viewing the collected data and generating reports. Communication between the agent and the data collector occurs over TCP/IP.
Configuration files are used to define the metrics to be monitored, the collection intervals, and the thresholds for alerts. The product does not expose any public APIs. Security is handled through z/VM's authentication mechanisms.
Compared to other monitoring solutions, Tivoli Omegamon for VM offered specific insights into the z/VM environment, but it is no longer supported. The product's design facilitated real-time monitoring and proactive problem resolution.
