The architecture of V/Solution comprised several key components: the Monitor Agent, Data Collector, and Reporting Engine. The Monitor Agent was responsible for collecting performance data from the z/VM system. The Data Collector processed the collected data, performing calculations and aggregations.
The Reporting Engine provided the user interface for viewing the processed data, including real-time dashboards and historical reports. Communication between these components occurred over TCP/IP. The Monitor Agent collected data from various z/VM subsystems, including CPU, memory, disk I/O, and network activity.
The Data Collector stored the processed data in a proprietary format. The Reporting Engine provided a command-line interface (CLI) for administrative tasks and a user interface for viewing performance data. The product used RACF for user authentication and access control.
Compared to IBM Z System Automation, V/Solution had a different architecture and command structure, but both aimed to provide comprehensive z/VM monitoring capabilities.
